Say Hello to Gabby! One of Aventura’s shining stars. She’s been food running since March 2017. Gabby loves working at Aventura and says that they are all one big familia. Gabby was nominated for this Employee Spotlight by her managers: "Gabby deserves to be recognized not only for her work ethic and dedication to her position at Aventura, but for the amount of light and positivity that she emits whenever she's in the building. She goes above and beyond to welcome new team members and truly demonstrates our SavCo core value: “Hospitality in everything we do”. We're proud to have her on our team. Fun fact about Gabby... she’s into woodworking! She even built herself a bed that has storage underneath and fits ANY size mattress for only $100 – so brilliant! Gabby is also a Junior at The University of Michigan studying sociology, however, her long term goal is to become a dentist. Per usual, we asked Gabby what her spirit animal is and her response was… “when I'm working I definitely relate to the little Energizer bunny because I’m nonstop energy and movement until my shift is over.”

Introducing Chris Edgar! One of Aventura’s hustlin’ Front of House Managers! Chris joined our team about 5 months ago all the way from Florida! He was nominated for our July Employee Spotlight by Aventura’s GM: "Chris deserves the spotlight for his never-ending enthusiasm, positivity and passion that he brings to work every single day. We have a joke at work that there's no way that somebody is this great ALL the time, but he truly is. He's thoughtful, intentional and cares deeply about his staff and his coworkers. We're thankful everyday that he found us all the way from Florida!" – Way to go Chris!!! Per usual, we asked Chris a series of questions to let y’all learn more about him: Favorite thing about working at Aventura: “The people!!!” If you could have dinner with one person (living or dead) who would it be and why: “My grandfather because I miss him” What's your spirit animal and why: “A bear because I’m lazy and sleep too much” – pssshh: you are definitely not lazy at work! Interesting fact: “I was bitten by a tiger!” – What?! We need more detail on this ASAP Hope you enjoyed learning about Chris – make sure to say ‘hello’ to him next time you see him running around Aventura!

Meet Maddie!! One of our fabulous hosts! Maddie started working at Sava’s back in January and hasn’t looked back since! She was nominated for our July Employee Spotlight by Sava’s GM, Melanie. Mel says that “Maddie has shown extreme ownership and dedication with her work, and is looking to grow here” – you go girl! Maddie loves working at Sava’s because she’s passionate about cooking and hospitality! She also loves that at SavCo Hospitality, “we treat every guest like they’re special and valued, because they are! The atmosphere we create here from the hospitality, to the decor, to the staff is so positive and unique. I also admire all the management staff and Sava herself for their constant hustle and high expectations. This place wouldn’t be the same without their empathy and attention to detail.” – oh my, we’re blushing. Let’s learn some fun info about Maddie: Maddie’s favorite thing about Ann Arbor is that there’s always something going on, especially in the summer! There’s always a hike to be taken, lakes to swim in, live music to see, or a festival or museum to visit! If she could have dinner with one person (living or dead), it would be C. S. Lewis. According to Maddie, “I admire his writing, his faith, his creativity, and I envy his friendship with J. R. R. Tolkien!” Interesting fact about Maddie: She has skydived, backpacked through the Colorado mountains, and summitted four “fourteeners” (peaks above 14,000 feet in elevation) in one day! Woah… goals. Lastly, we had to ask Maddie what her spirit animal is… her answer: “A peacock!! Their beautiful colors inspire my art and they are symbols of rebirth, which I connect with because I feel like I’m constantly remaking myself!” So beautiful and inspiring!

Oh hey, Seth!! Server and trainer at Aventura for the past year… and… drum roll please… recently promoted Assistant Manager! According to our GM, Seth was nominated for our employee spotlight because: “He loves being at Aventura and is very professional in everything that he does. Seth is super eager to learn and grow here.” Seth’s favorite thing about working at Aventura is… “The diverse, smart, and charming group of co-workers, first and foremost, who make it fun to come to work. Second, is the ability to immerse myself in a whole world of cool Spanish food and wine culture, right here in Michigan.” His favorite thing about Ann Arbor is… “The Michigan and State Theatres!! Where else in Michigan could I go to a free screening of a Hong Sangsoo masterpiece (Korean Cinema Now), see world-premiere experimental films with director Q+As (Cinetopia), and laugh my butt off with Mike Birbiglia...all in the span of a season?!” Wanna know something extra cool about Seth? Well… he’s the drummer for a theatrical rock band called Not Blood Paint! They’re incognito now, but you can check out their Instagram (@notbloodpaint), past videos on YouTube, and music on Spotify/iTunes/Bandcamp. Do y’all know Jules?! She’s one of our Savco Hospitality rockstars who was nominated for our September Employee Spotlight. According to Sava’s GM, “Jules has conquered the FOH and now BOH at Sava’s! She’s an all around team player and the best coach.” Jules began as the chef at Aventura when we first opened and was there for about 1.5 years. She then switched over to Babo and worked in various roles there for over 2 years. Finally, about 1.5 years ago, Jules moved to Sava's where she had her first taste of the restaurant biz, but this time as a Floor Manager. Jules’ next step at SavCo is Managing Partner for our newest restaurant, Dixboro House, opening in Spring 2019!! After working for almost all of the SavCo businesses, Jules’ favorite thing about working here is: “The amount of opportunity to constantly learn and grow paired with the company's drive to constantly improve. This creates a really creative and supportive environment where every individual has a place to thrive. It's so inspiring to work with individuals who are so in love and dedicated to their trade but also so willing to teach and share their passion and ideas.” Jules loves to be outdoors – it’s the perfect antidote to the crazy rush of the restaurant business. When she’s not hustlin’ around Sava’s, Jules likes to go hiking with her lady and handsome pup, Maple! Lastly, according to Jules, her spirit animal is, without a doubt, a baby bear. She says: “I can be cute and cuddly, but I also feel like the strength and respect of the bear pushes me for constant improvement and makes me ready for any challenge I have to take on. Plus, who doesn't love honey?”
